Sommer Fountain – Fellows Riverside Gardens

In a concerted effort to enhance the landscaping at Mill Creek MetroParks’ public botanical garden, staff and outside consultants created a 2008 Master Plan. An early area of the plan’s focus was the defunct Sommer Fountain, which had been shut down due to severe leaking and was situated without logical connection to many other features of the gardens. Working together with Terra Design of Pittsburgh, the project evolved to include the complete removal and reconstruction of the iconic fountain and realignment of adjacent pathways. Additionally, the new Seasonal Celebration Plaza was created to anchor the space and invite visitors to explore in any direction

The previously off-center feature has been reincorporated into the landscape and is surrounded by seasonal plantings. Now, you will find visitors enjoying this contemplative garden space, sitting on the benches under the arbors, and enjoying views of a flourishing perennial walkway anchored by a beautiful fountain.
